The latest putter from Callaway Golf offers several hooks to lure consumers: there's a Bob Bettinardi connection and there are weight screws, for two. But the most eye-catching is the feature that gives the I-Trax its name: interchangeable "vision strips" that allow the golfer to select the type of alignment aid he or she most prefers.
The Callaway I-Trax is the first putter to include alignment aids that can be swapped out by the golfer. Don't feel the one on the putter is helping as much as you'd like? Try a different one. There are two of these "vision strips" included and they can be changed out in a matter of seconds (although, by the rules, you'll have to pick one prior to your round and stick with it throughout your round).
One of the I-Trax Putter's vision strips features the Callaway Golf Chevrons to focus the golfer's eyes on the center of the putter head and clearly delineate the target line. But recognizing that many golfers may prefer simple straight lines as they stand over a putt, Callaway's second "vision strip" provides exactly that: three straight lines. The "vision strips" are secured in place on top of the putter head with four screws.
The Bettinardi connection comes from the fact that Bettinardi - the master putter designer whose name is used on putters made by the Callaway division Ben Hogan - supervised the milling of the aluminum body of the Callaway I-Trax Putter. The 100-percent milled aluminum head also includes a "sound slot" located directly behind the face that, Callaway says, "tunes the sound at impact," thereby increasing feedback. The aluminum head is protected by a hard, black anodized finish.
Which brings us to the weight screws. The triangulated, heavy fixed weights positioned at the heel and toe in the face and in the back center of the sole. Each weight is 11.5 grams; the two face weights are brass while the sole weight is aluminum. The weights help move the center of gravity low and to the rear of the I-Trax putter head, thereby increasing the moment of inertia. A higher MOI aids with a consistent roll and better performance on off-center hits.
The Callaway I-Trax Putter features a soft Winn grip and comes with a headcover and component case for the straight line vision strip, four extra vision strip screws and an Allen wrench.
